Subject: DMV Questionnaire: Emergence Date: Tue, 30 Jun 2009 16:11:25 -0700 From: humblepie@obop.org To: humblepie@obop.org This is an automated email from the DMV's questionnaire submission system. Please take a moment to carefully read over the information below: If you are receiving this email, it means that your application was considered complete, i.e., you provided us with all of the requested information and agreed to certain terms and conditions. IF YOU DID NOT INCLUDE A URL OR UPLOAD A PHOTO: Please note that your application is NOT complete, and will not be considered until we receive this. Please mail a photo or diagram of your vehicle to: Burning Man Attn: Department of Mutant Vehicles P O Box 884688 San Francisco, CA 94188-4688 EVERYONE: The next step in the Mutant Vehicle licensing process is for your pre-registration data to be reviewed by the DMV. You can expect ONE of the following three things to happen: 1. You will receive an email inviting you to bring your Mutant Vehicle to Burning Man, where a team of DMV Hotties will perform an on-playa inspection. If it meets all criteria, it will be issued an appropriate license. In this instance, you will also be added to an announce list for Mutant Vehicles owners (list refreshed yearly), which will provide you with important information before the event. OR 2. You will receive an email asking you to NOT bring your Mutant Vehicle to Burning Man. If you receive this email, it is because a team of DMV Hotties has determined that this vehicle would not be issued a license on the playa. This step is intended to reduce the sweat and heartache of hauling your vehicle all the way to the playa only to discover that you cannot share it with your community. OR 3. You will be contacted by a member of the DMV and asked to clarify certain points about your application or vehicle. Allow 4 to 6 weeks after you complete your application for us to process it and get back to you. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us at dmv@burningman.com. That's all for now! Thanks! Emergence offers a shaded, highly social day tour, and services its dusty playa visitors by offering cold Emergen-C from the bar. At night, Emergence mutates into a well lit, lively, hopping dance scene. Emergence includes a portable dance floor (with dance poles) on the front hood, safely accommodating eight dancers, a no-host bar, and a lounge in the back with seating for up to twelve people. Lighting Plans: -------------- The entire vehicle is radically lit, externally with a combination of EL-wire and rope light. The interior is lit with florescent black lights. Standard running lights include white lights in front and red lights in the tail. Mutant Vehicle Intent: --------------------- This vehicle will provide a shaded seating area for transporting passengers around the playa, and a moving display of The Butterfly, symbolizing evolution of the individual and society through the process of metamorphosis, a radical change of form from consumer of the environment to a simple expression of beauty and delicacy. Operating Procedures: -------------------- The vehicle will always be monitored by a crew of three: the driver, a door monitor, and a tail monitor. A bullhorn, as well as the standard vehicle horn, is available to the driver for sounding departure and advising passersby of its presence. A fire extinguisher and first aid kit are on board in the bar, easily accessible to the driver (and any bartender who may be present). In general, most passengers riding the vehicle at any time are part of the OBOP community, a well-behaved tribe of close friends who have learned over many years how to take care of one another, and who know how to gently but firmly deal with troublesome elements. (OBOP is not applying for a theme camp this year.) Enter/Exit Procedures: --------------------- All entry and exit to the lounge area is through a single side door to the right of the driver. Boarding and exiting are permitted only when the vehicle is stopped. The door monitor is responsible for making sure traffic through the door is orderly.
